The Women in Surgery conference aims to inspire women to pursue surgery by tackling the gender imbalances in the field demonstrated by the fact that only 14.7% of all UK consultant surgeons are women.
As part of the conference, every year we have a Speed Mentoring Circuit, where we give students the unique, invaluable opportunity to talk to surgeons from a diverse range of specialties and gain insight into what it is like to pursue a surgical career. During this time, you will become mentors for the day while answering questions and giving advice to aspiring surgeons.
We intend to hold this workshop at the University College London Campus on Sunday, 26th November 2023. There will be two sessions – each running for an hour and both will take place during the afternoon session between 1:30pm – 3:30pm.
We would be extremely grateful if you would be able to participate in either one or even both sessions!
Below is the sign up link for the mentoring circuit
In return for your generosity, a certificate will be provided for attending!
Thank you, we greatly appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you there. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at womeninsurgery.ucl@gmail.com.

Adding your name and decision to the NHS Organ Donor Register is the best way to record your decision. Your family will be expected to support what you have decided, so you should also tell them what you want. Adults and children can each save up to nine lives by being an organ donor and improve many more lives by donating tissue too.
Show your support by pledging to record your decision this Organ Donation Week.

For this edition, the TLJ Steering Committees have selected nine topics. For each topic, the Committees will conduct evidence-based reviews, grade the evidence, and develop preliminary statements that will be discussed and voted in Prague by a wider panel, including jury members.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, transplant patients and clinicians have been faced with considerable challenges. In particular, immunosuppressed HBV liver transplant patients are required to receive on-going therapy to prevent HBV recurrence. To achieve comprehensive protection, it is recommended that patients, particularly those in the high-risk category, are administered a combination of antivirals and Hepatitis B-specific hyperimmunoglobulins (HBIG).
The intravenous and intramuscular administration of HBIG requires HBV liver transplant patients to visit the hospital and infusion ward, meaning patients are exposed to the risk of contracting COVID-19 through increased contact with both healthcare professionals, care-givers and other patients.
Subcutaneous administration offers an alternative option that allows the patient to administer HBIG by themselves at home. This ensures the patient receives essential medication without coming in to contact with others, which both reduces the patients’ risk of exposure to COVID-19 and allows healthcare professionals to focus on COVID-19 patients. Moreover, with therapy from home, comes greater flexibility and freedoms which increases compliance and quality of life for the patient.
ESOT, together with BIOTEST, is organising this webinar to discuss how immunosuppressed transplant patients can be kept safe from HBV-reinfection and COVID-19, whilst enjoying an improved quality of life, through self-administration of subcutaneous HBIG at home.
